Good Times
Good Times refers to itself as “Canada’s Magazine for Successful Retirement.” It is a lifestyle magazine whose contents aptly reflect the title, with articles aimed at Canadian retirees (and those anticipating retirement) who want to get the most out of their leisure years.  Regular features come under the headings of gardening, health, food, style and beauty, travel and a special section on your rights. Also in the back of the book you can test your skill at Sudoku and crossword puzzles.

Zoomer magazine
published six times a year by Canada's Association for the 50-Plus (CARP)
CARP has more than 400,000 members – a huge voice when it comes to promoting change.
Their mission is to promote and protect the rights and quality of life for older Canadians by:
developing practical recommendations to enhance health care, human rights and income; working with government on policy initiatives; providing information on key political and economic issues as well as lifestyle choices; negotiating group benefits and savings on services and product.
“Everyone wants to live longer but no one wants to be old.” – Moses Znaimer, new executive director of CARP.
This association fight is also out to completely change the way the world looks at aging. Zoomer is the new name for us and why not? We control most of the money, we're active, fit (or as fit as we can be, considering) and raring to go, disabled or not. However, this magazine is not about disability issues and doesn't feature them.
You can join CARP and as a member receive discounts on everything from insurance to hotel rooms.
To find out about membership or CARP benefits write to:

Books

Raising a Kid with Special Needs - The Complete Canadian Guide
After Disability - A Guide to Getting on with Life
published by Key Porter Books - Toronto - www.keyporter.com

Lisa Bendall, former managing editor of Abilities, has written two absolutely superb books. Raising a Kid with Special Needs: is a complete, comprehensive and friendly new guide for parents raising a child with disabilities and After Disability: A Guide to Getting on with Life: a confirmation for those who are already disabled and an eye-opener telling those who are newly disabled and their caregivers what to expect.
In both easy to read (and digest) books, the language is clear, the steps make sense, and the resources are an absolute gift to anyone involved with disability issues. Each chapter has a personal story from someone who has been there, done that. I love them. These books are so good I'm keeping them right beside my computer so I can answer questions and refer people to the things she mentions. She's covered just about everything and I can't recommend these books more highly.
I believe you can order them through the www.keyporter.com website using your credit card or from Chapters or www.amazon.ca. Why not check out Lisa's new website, www.lisabendall.com .
